The History of The Babcock House

Dating all the way back to 1884, just after the civil war, the Babcock House is a turn-of-the-century inn thought to be built by Samual Patterson Coleman, Jr, previously owned by the Abbitt family before being bought by H.C. Babcock in 1908. Joining a long list of historic hotels, it was converted into a bed & breakfast in 1996 and has remained ever since. Featuring five rooms and one suite, the Babcock house is beautifully furnished, with books and antiques offering a nostalgic atmosphere that will leave you reminiscing. But don’t worry, our technology isn’t antique! We’ve made sure to outfit each room with cable, free wifi, and central heat and air to guarantee your comfort. The Babcock house remains a staple fixture in the beautiful historic town of Appomattox, which we are proud to call our home. The Inn has become a central element of the community, utilizing the surrounding local businesses and vendors to curate a unique and thoughtful experience built for people who appreciate community-built businesses. Since its humble beginnings as a family dwelling under Babcock ownership, we have worked to continue to make the accommodations of the Babcock House feel like a home-away-from-home for our guests. We source only the best fare, ensuring each dish and drink is prepared and brewed with the help of Appomattox locals. Quality Comfort; Family Atmosphere We relocated to Appomattox from Hagerstown, MD, to become the Babcock House Innkeepers, and it was the best decision we ever made. Our family includes me (Talia), my wonderful husband, Charles, and our two beautiful children, Remington and Euan. Both Charles and I realized that our unique talents for cooking and hospitality weren’t being utilized at our previous jobs, so we left to tend to the Babcock House and raise our children in a town that values community and complete connection above all else. Together, we have made a home out of the Babcock House and the community surrounding it, and we want our guests to be welcomed into this community as well. We strive to provide the best service possible for our guests, and our dedication to achieving excellence is what makes the Babcock House so special.
