Meet Your Innkeepers
Welcome to The Babcock House! We are Charles and Talia Clusman, and together with our two sons, Remington and Euan, we have had the privilege of welcoming guests to our historic home for the past decade.
When we first arrived in Appomattox, we fell in love with the slower pace of life, the rich history of Central Virginia, and the opportunity to create a place where guests could truly feel at home. Today, we consider ourselves not only innkeepers, but stewards of this beautiful 1884 Victorian home and the timeless tradition of hospitality it represents.
Hospitality, to us, is much more than providing a comfortable place to stay. It’s sharing a homemade breakfast around a full table, offering thoughtful recommendations for exploring Virginia’s historic heartland, and creating a peaceful retreat where couples and travelers can reconnect and rest.
Charles brings his culinary background and creative spirit to the inn. He is happiest when creating something with his hands—whether that’s preparing a memorable meal, tending the gardens, preserving seasonal ingredients, or casting a line into one of Virginia’s many beautiful waterways.
Talia wears many hats as hostess, marketer, gardener, homeschool teacher, and resident project manager. She delights in the thoughtful details that make guests feel cared for—from fresh flowers on the table to sharing her favorite local recommendations. She believes some of life’s best moments happen over good conversation and a leisurely breakfast.
Our sons are an important part of life at The Babcock House as well. Remington is an aspiring engineer and entrepreneur whose curiosity and creativity are never in short supply. Euan has a deep appreciation for music and art and can often be found drawing, creating, or exploring a new interest. Together, our boys help remind us to approach life with wonder and enthusiasm.
As a homeschooling family, we value meaningful experiences, lifelong learning, and making time for what matters most. Those values naturally shape the kind of hospitality we offer our guests.
