We’re so glad you’re here!
The Babcock House has been welcoming travelers to Appomattox since 1884, and we hope your stay feels a little more like visiting friends than checking into a hotel.
Please make yourself at home. Enjoy a cup of coffee, settle into the parlor with a book or board game, wander through the gardens, or simply find a comfortable spot on one of the porches and relax.
And if you need something during your stay, please ask. We’re happy to help!
Check-In & Check-Out
Regular check-in: 2:00–5:00 PM
If you’ll be arriving after 5:00 PM, self check-in is available. We’ll provide everything you need for an easy arrival.
Need to arrive earlier than 2:00? Priority check-in may be available for an additional fee, depending on our schedule. Please contact us in advance to see if it’s possible.
Check-out: 11:00 AM
Need a little more time in the morning? Priority check-out may be available for an additional fee, depending on our schedule. Please ask us in advance.
Parking
Guest parking is complimentary in the lot next to the inn.
When you arrive, please enter through the front door.
When coming and going, please make sure the front door is securely locked behind you.
Breakfast
Breakfast is included with your stay—and it’s one of our favorite parts of having guests here!
Breakfast is served at 7:30, 8:00, or 8:30 AM. Please let us know which time you prefer.
We love using what we grow and raise here at the Babcock House whenever we can. Eggs from our chickens and produce from our garden often make their way onto the breakfast table, along with other locally sourced ingredients.
Please let us know about any dietary restrictions or preferences. We’re happy to accommodate them whenever possible.
Want to share breakfast with a local friend or family member? You’re welcome to invite local guests to join you with advance notice. Breakfast for additional guests is $20 per person.
Dinner at The Babcock House
If you’d like to stay in for dinner, we’d love to cook for you!
Dinner is available exclusively to overnight guests Wednesday through Sunday evenings. Because dinner is prepared especially for our guests, reservations must be made at least 72 hours in advance.
Please note that we do not offer dinner on Mondays or Tuesdays, and occasional private events may make dinner unavailable on an otherwise available evening.
You’ll receive an email about a week before your stay with information about reserving dinner.
Have a local friend or family member you’d like to join you? With advance notice, overnight guests are welcome to invite local guests to dinner. Just let us know when you make your reservation so we can prepare enough for everyone.
Coffee, Tea & Refreshments
You’ll find Keurig coffee makers on both the first and second floors, stocked with coffee and tea for you to enjoy throughout your stay.
An ice machine and shared refrigerator are located in the first-floor hallway.
Each guest room also has a bottle of water. If you need a refill, just let us know.
The Bar
Feel like a beer? Interested in a glass of wine?
Our bar is available to overnight guests. Give us a call if you’d like a beer or would like to take a look at our wine list. If we’re on-site, we’ll be happy to help you choose something.
Availability may vary depending on whether we’re here, so don’t hesitate to ask.

Television
We’ve said goodbye to cable television!
Our guest rooms now have smart TVs set to Guest Mode, so you can enjoy your favorite streaming services during your stay without leaving your account information behind.
When you turn on the TV, you’ll be prompted to enter your checkout date. Once you’ve done that, you’ll be taken to the main screen, where you can choose the apps you’d like to use.
Please use your own login information for any streaming services you access. When your stay ends, Guest Mode automatically signs you out so your account information isn’t left behind for the next guest.
And if you’d rather put the screen away for a while, the parlor is full of books, games, and puzzles. Or step outside and enjoy the porches and gardens.
Enjoy the House
There’s plenty to do here without leaving the inn.
The parlor is open for guests to enjoy. You’ll find a collection of books, puzzles, and board games and plenty of comfortable places to sit.
When the weather cooperates, take a stroll through the gardens, enjoy the lawn, or settle into one of our outdoor seating areas. Yard games are available for guests to enjoy, too.
The house and gardens are yours to enjoy—please make yourself comfortable.
Families & Visitors
Children and families are always welcome at The Babcock House.
If you’d like to have friends or family visit you during your stay, that’s welcome, too. Just keep in mind that The Babcock House is a small inn, so we ask that visitors be considerate of our other guests and that gatherings remain reasonable.
Overnight accommodations are reserved for registered guests.
Your Comfort
The house is centrally heated and air conditioned, and every room has a ceiling fan.
If the temperature in your room isn’t comfortable, please let us know. We’d much rather adjust things than have you spend the night too hot or too cold!
Hallway lights remain on overnight for safety.
All guest rooms have hair dryers and make-up mirrors.
Need an iron and ironing board? Just ask.
Forgot something at home? We keep a small collection of useful extras on hand, including:
- Phone chargers
- Toothbrushes
- Toothpaste
- Razors
- Shaving cream
There’s a good chance we can help with whatever little thing you forgot to pack.
A Note About Our Old House
The Babcock House was built in 1884, and some of the things that make an old house charming also make it a little different from a modern hotel.
Floors may creak, doors may stick, and sound travels more easily than it does in a newer building. We think that’s part of the character, but if something isn’t quite right during your stay, please let us know. We’d much rather help than have you be uncomfortable.
Quiet hours are 10:00 PM–8:00 AM. Please be considerate of other guests during those hours, including with television, music, conversations, and coming and going.
Smoking & Pets
The Babcock House is a non-smoking, non-vaping property indoors.
If you smoke or vape, please do so outside on one of the porches, where ashtrays are provided.
Pets are not permitted.
