Looking Ahead….

new year

You know, I spend all year looking forward to Christmas and then, BAM, it’s gone. Grown-ups tell me that just gets worse as you get older. What a bummer. Oh well, it isn’t as if there aren’t a lot of great things to look forward to in the coming year. The big thing at our house is the new baby. He’s not here yet, but Mama says it could happen any day. I cannot wait to meet him and be a great big brother. I will play with him and change diapers, all kinds of things! People keep giving me a funny look when I say that and when I ask why, they just say, “oh, nothing….” I guess it’s another one of those things I’ll have to find out for myself.

In the meantime, I’ll tell you about some of the other things coming up that should be a lot of fun. First, you should know that the restaurant will be closed the week of Christmas so Daddy can get a break. Between you and me, though, I think Mama will have plenty for him to do. But we are lucky that we get to have a lot of family visiting during that time. Maybe we can take them on the First Day Hike at Holliday Lake State Park!

Throughout the year, the Civil War Museum in town will be leading History Happy Hours and Civil War Converstations. These will be at various locations and the details can be found at acwm.org. There are also several theater groups in nearby Lynchburg putting on different classic plays or music events, which sound like a lot of fun. You can check out the Academy Center of the Arts or Opera on the James for details and tickets to those.

Of course, our restaurant is featuring several special dinners and holiday meals again this year. Our first wine dinner in January is already full, but we will be doing a second one later this year as well as a beer and whiskey dinners. Keep your eyes out for information on those as they typically get filled before a menu is even devised! We are lucky to have four nights of Valentine’s dinner this year and reservations are open for that. Other holiday brunches like Easter, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day will all require advance tickets, so don’t let those pass by without calling ahead to get your family’s name on the list.

We are also excited to be working closely with Wolfbane Productions on several events once again. Their first event in March, Beers & Ballads, will include us as a stop. We will also be doing two more murder mystery dinners…it was so fun last year! Many people are excited to welcome “Romeo & Juliet” back to Appomattox Court House National Historical Park this year along with Wolfbane’s longest season yet. We are proud to be partnering with them in so many things including special themed meals for every mainstage production exclusively for Wolfbane All Access members.

Opening the end of May, Evergreen Lavender Farm is a lovely stop when you’re in town. They have special events through the season, including the Lavender Festival on June 16th. Also, keep in mind the Independence Day Celebration at Patrick Henry’s Red Hill. We will also be closed July 3-5 over the holiday for our summer break, so hopefully we’ll see you there!

Well, I do believe that is quite enough to get your minds turning about all the wonderful things that Appomattox will have coming up this year. For more events, visit our events page or to purchase travel packages, you can check out Experience Appomattox. We look forward to seeing you in the coming year!
